Peace Out Skincare, based in Los Angeles, was created to stand out. Much like LA, the city and our brand both thrive on creativity and passion for our industries. Whether you are a native or a transplant, LA welcomes you; the weird, the outspoken, the adventurous, and the fearless.
This city welcomes optimists and dreamers alike, who feed off the fast-paced environment and the dream they came here to create.
So what makes the LA dream? Who are these risk takers?
When walking down the boardwalk, Venice Beach or Hollywood- it’s hard not to ask yourself “Who are these people and what are their stories? What makes them standout from the rest?”
At Peace Out, our team uncovers the stories behind our followers and fellow dreamers. We are diving deeper and highlighting some of the incredible lives we come across daily.
Megan Scott Manalova, an American-Bulgarian fashion designer, grew up in Belgium with her family in the city of Liege. She experienced different cultures, religions and ideologies; where she was also exposed to the art of music. Her unique background molded her into the driven and open-minded woman that originally graced our Instagram feed.
Only two years after launching a successful fashion company in Belgium, Megan knew she needed to step out and experience the rest of the world. So next stop Los Angeles!
Who is Megan & How Did She Get Started?
Megan originally studied fashion in Belgium, she then went to work in the industry where she began creating her own designs. Megan studied the industry leaders, took lessons from “The Gods of Fashion” and put them to work for her own brand. Music and fashion inspired her, but she is much more than just a creator in the fashion industry, she is also a beauty and skincare guru.
Without ever traveling to Los Angeles, Megan took a risk on her new business venture! With her wits and eccentric personality, she slayed her competition in the fashion industry. Megan is a living example of her brand and that is what drives MSM.LA’s success.
"I felt as though things were attainable in my country but I did not feel challenged or stimulated."
Megan wanted to play in the Major Leagues instead of just watching it from the sidelines. So she went to work and created a global plan for her line and her brand.
“Jouer dans la cours des grands” - It was her time to play in the Majors!
Megan’s streetwear designs embody the style of the modern LA woman.
The Value of the MSM.LA Brand
Megan values quality above all else. Her goal is to impact the fashion community and serve the women who represent her fashion line.
“In today’s market, there is so much competition. I want something that is efficient and fixes the issues that I am trying to solve. As far as my brand goes, I want to produce a quality product that lasts and becomes one of those staple pieces - “A go-to item”.
Megan’s hardworking mindset has a big impact on her fashion community. Her message is you can make it if you work hard and are doing what you love. She is currently working 80-100 hrs/week between her day job in order to balance the day-to-day of her bathing suit line.
The misrepresentation Megan felt growing up was a major driver for the inception of her fashion line. Style builds identity and confidence. Megan specifically created this line for women who battle insecurity. She encourages simplicity and the attitude to not care what people think. She empowers women with her designs and gives them the extra push to build that confidence.
At Peace Out Skincare, we feel the same way. We strive to encourage a healthy and happy lifestyle where you can be comfortable in your own skin! We want young women to love themselves and say peace out to bad vibes from misrepresentation in the media and impossible beauty standards. Like Megan, we stand for simplicity and positivity. No cover-up needed! Our easy 1-step fix for skin imperfections helps you be fearless in the pursuit of inner strength and self-esteem!
We are working with Megan to discourage body-shaming. Her swimwear line encourages simple style, no push-up and no false advertising. Simply you, the fabric, and the water. Similar to our product Peace Out Acne, Megan’s swimwear is not about covering or changing the body for the pleasure of others. We want to aid the skin you were born with, not cover it up with added products!
As an influencer, Megan understands her platform and would never manipulate girls to feel discouraged about their appearance to sell more product. Megan has always personally struggled with her weight and because of this wants to encourage women to be healthy and love the skin they are in no matter what!
Megan Spills the Deets!
Of course, moving to a new country and starting a new business is not easy and there are always going to be bumps in the road, just like skincare! The emotional side of starting a new venture in a new country can take its toll at times. Sometimes you believe in yourself and feel like you can take on the world! Other times, you doubt yourself and the negative emotions can creep in- hindering what you know you can do.
We wanted to know more about Megan’s experience coming to Los Angeles because stress is a major factor in skin imperfections.
What did you think about LA when you first moved here?
"In the beginning, it was a bit overwhelming as I didn’t really know what to expect. I decided to move here before I had actually visited. My gut told me that this would be the right place for me and here I am two years later and I love it. Not planning to move back anytime soon, even if LA can be a tough place at times- like the traffic."
You have a big presence on social media, what are some obstacles when working on social platforms?
“The fake side of it, the photoshop, the girls with hair extensions selling hair growth treatments- the people should be more genuine and more natural. Love yourself!. These women with mass audiences could be using their influence for something positive. It could be used for social causes or women coming together like the #metoo campaign. Impact is made more quickly these days.”
Social media definitely has its positives and negatives. Let’s keep pushing towards the positive. You be you!
How do girls of this generation compare to those before us?
“Technology has helped us in the sense that we can find so much information, which creates more flexible humans. We have gained the ability to adapt very easily with video, photography, editing and writing. Unfortunately, with some of these new tools we have also become more lazy with food delivery services, automation of so many things and extreme dependence on technology.”
Tell us about your story through your brand
“Every collection I created is based upon a subject I am sensitive to or has related to my personal struggles. For example, my final school year collection was called Silicoverdose. It was based on the fact that the media has given women a “Barbie Doll” complex. Giving us unrealistic standards to live up to. Besides it would be very boring if everyone looked the same.”
