“Does acne cause sugar?” —us, to ourselves, the morning after devouring an entire bag of sour gummies. Well, the answer is, yes. But, we’ve got a few ways you can minimize those nasty effects of sugar on your acne! Let’s get into them:
TIP 1: EXCERCISE
To help avoid an insulin spike in your blood stream (which is what causes those pesky breakouts), try exercising after you’ve consumed excess sugar. Even if it’s just a light walk after dinner or a quick mid-day circuit, it’ll make a big impact on your skin!
TIP 2: PAIR IT WITH PROTEIN OR A FAT
Try pairing your sweet treat with a protein bar or spoonful of nut butter. This helps slow down your digestion and reduce that insulin spike that causes those unwanted breakouts.
TIP 3: HYDRATE
Be sure to keep up with your water! This will help dilute your blood sugar and cause you to flush out all of that excess sugar. Bonus: hydration keeps your skin glowy AF, too!
TIP 4: KEEP UP WITH YOUR ROUTINE
Be sure you’re applying your Peace Out Acne Serum & Repairing Moisturizer nightly to prevent unwanted acne and keep your barrier in check. But, if you still wake up to a breakout after your sugar binge, pop on an Acne Dot! This will zap it 6 hours or less.
TIP 5: GET BACK ON TRACK TOMORROW
Don’t stress if you had one-to-many scoops of ice cream last night— it will probably cause more harm than good! Just try to follow the 80/20 rule when it comes to sweets & processed foods. Get back on track tomorrow with an acne-friendly, low-sugar meal.
